Renew Your Membership Today!

by Bart

October is officially on the way out and time is running short to renew your membership in the Isle of Iowa.  All memberships need to be renewed annually (in October) so you can continue to Party with a Purpose on the Isle.  Membership dues are only $25 for a single membership and $35 for a family membership.

Now I know it is easy to ask yourself that age old question…Why should I renew?  Perhaps your busy schedule doesn’t allow you to attend as many functions as you would like or you find yourself wondering just exactly what does paying my membership dues do for me.  Let me try to answer those burning questions for you…

Whether you are a club regular (someone who attends lots of meetings & club functions), a parrot head who attends when you can, or a member of our phlock who follows us from afar (via the web site/listserv) – you are a valued and important part of our club!  I think there is a special sense of pride & satisfaction that goes along with being an “official” parrothead – a card carrying member of the Isle of Iowa! While anyone can claim to be a parrothead – it is far more special to Party with a Purpose and be part of our phlock on the Isle of Iowa.

Membership dues are extremely important to our club.  Your dues support the operation of our club and allow the Isle of Iowa to continue to Party with a Purpose and support many wonderful local charities.  Earlier this month, our phlock raised over $5,200 (a new record) at Island Fever Phlocking to support Waypoint Services & the Johnson County Crisis Center.  The membership dues that you pay each year helped to make that possible.  Truth be told – we can’t do it without you!

Don’t forget – all paid members will again receive a membership card that provides some great discounts at some of our favorite hang-outs.  Several new businesses have signed on as sponsors of our membership cards and there are some great new deals!  In fact if you use your card just 5 or 6 times it will nearly return what you paid for your membership back to you.  How can you possibly pass on a deal like that?

I think I have mentioned that we have had many new phriends join us on to the Isle in the past few months and we are on pace to have a great year for membership! We might even be approaching a new milestone (number of members) but we need you to help us make that happen!  Renew your membership today and help us make it the best year yet on the Isle of Iowa.  Checks should be made payable to the Isle of Iowa and your membership dues may be mailed to either of the following addresses:

Isle of Iowa Parrothead Club     PO Box 11172     Cedar Rapids, IA  52410

or

Bart Mason, Membership Director     2213 Harvest Circle     Coralville, Iowa  52241

Don’t delay – renew your membership today.  Help us to grow our membership and make the Isle of Iowa bigger & better than it has ever been!  Remember – there’s always room for another parrothead on the Isle and there is always room for you.

Who’s ready for a Road Trip???????

The Isle of Iowa Parrothead Party Buswill be departing for Des Moines next Saturday, October 8.  Destination – Livingston Saturday Night featuring the sounds of the Cedar Island Band.

We’ve got a great travelling party assembled so far but we still have room for more parrotheads who are ready to Party with a Purpose with the Des Moines Parrothead Club.  Now that our phlocking is over, it’s time to kick back, relax and get on the bus for this fun-filled road trip (no volunteer shiftsJ)!  Remember – this trip is open to members and non-members of our club so recruit your family members, friends, neighbors, co-workers to get on the bus with us! Did I mention we were upgraded (at no charge) to a deluxe luxury motor coach?

The cost for this trip is only $50and that includes the bus ride, games & entertainment, some special door prizes, your ticket to Livingston Saturday Night, and all the JELLO shots you could ask for!  We will also be conducting a special 50/50 Raffle (thanks Saul) on the bus and one lucky parrothead will pocket half of the proceeds.  Tickets will be $1.00 each with the other half of the proceeds used to cover the bus driver’s tip.

Parrotheads…We Need You!!!!!

by Bart

It’s the Final Countdown…….

We are in the home stretch – Island Fever Phlocking is only 8 days away!  Hopefully everyone is ready to Party with a Purpose on behalf of two great organizations (Waypoint Services & the Johnson County Crisis Center) next Saturday (October 1)!  It’s going to be a fantastic event…a wonderful, fun-filled evening with great music, great friends and lots of FUN!

We thank you for all that you have already done to support Island Fever 2011 – your support to date has been amazing!  However, as we make the “final push” to this year’s event there is still much work to be done to make sure this year’s event is the best one yet and we hope you might still have a little room left to help us out just a little bit more.  Listed below are four things that we could still use your help with…

Phlocking Ticket Sales:  Now is the last big push to get those tickets sold!  If you have pre-sale tickets – sell them out; if you need pre-sales tickets give me a call (319-930-2833).  Our ticket sales are what makes this event work and we need all hands on deck to get those tickets sold.  Now is the time to hit up your co-workers, neighbors, family & your non-parrothead friends!  It might also be a great opportunity to sell those remaining tickets to your employer offering them a great opportunity to support two fantastic charitable causes.  As a special bonus “challenge” I will be donating a prize (in a bottle J) to the person who sells the most pre-sale tickets.

Auction Items:  We have had lots of great donations already (thanks to all of you)!  However, more items mean more money for two great organizations so if you would still be willing to donate an item or two please contact KarenRandklev or Tammy Maneely.  Here are a few “needed” items that will help push the auction over the top…

  • Any type of Margaritaville stuff
  • Landshark Goodies (6 packs, Buckets, ANYTHING Landshark)
  • Wine Bottle (for a Hawaiian shirt basket)
  • Pirate’s treasure items-Captain Morgan, Gold Beads or Coins (something for a treasure box)
  • Movie Tickets or DVDs for a couple of movie baskets
  • Hawkeye Items (anything)
  • Set of Margarita Glasses
  • Tropical Christmas Items
  • Wine Bottle with a fall theme (pumpkin, spiced…something fall-ish)
  • Tequila
  • Nascar Items
  • Restaurant Gift Cards (any amounts would be appreciated)
  • Any sort of Booze

Booze Pull:  Speaking of booze, every bottle of booze that is “pulled” in the Booze Pull will mean $10 for our charities!  We are still collecting booze bottle donations for this exciting, new event.  Grab a bottle from your liquor cabinet or pick up an extra one on your next trip to your favorite liquor store and donate it to the Booze Pull!

Volunteer to Work a Shift:  We still have lots of volunteer opportunities available the night of the Phlocking!  Volunteer shifts are only an hour in length and are relatively painless!  Consider donating an hour of your time to help out with one of our activities (many hands give everyone the chance to party with a purpose).  Let Randy Havlik know when and where (if you have a preference) you can help out!

Thanks for all that YOU have done already to support this great event…we could not do it without YOU!  It truly is a great day to be on the Isle of Iowa!

Booze Bottles & Phlocking Tickets

by Bart

It’s a great day to be on the Isle of Iowa – we hope to see you all at our monthly meeting tonight at the Downtown Fieldhouse!  We want to encourage you to donate a bottle of booze, turn in any money you have collected so far in phlocking ticket sales & bring any items you have to donate to the silent auction.

The Booze Pull will be a new event at our Island Fever Phlocking this year and we are hoping to raise at least $500 from this new activity.  In order to do this we need at least 50 bottles of booze and we are very close, but not quite to the “bottom of the bottle” yet!  We are hoping that you will be able to donate a bottle of alcohol at tonight’s meeting to get us over the top.  Those who attend the phlocking will then be able to contribute $10 and will receive a chance to pull a token which will earn them a bottle of booze.  Each token will be matched to a specific bottle so with each booze pull participants will win a different type of booze.  Wine, tequila, rum, whiskey, other liquor, or even 6 packs will suffice.  Remember, each bottle equals $10 in the booze pull activity.  While it really defies logic & common sense (donating booze instead of drinking it) :)   defy logic & donate a bottle to support this great new addition to our event!

We would also like to collect any money that has been collected so far in ticket sales.  Hopefully everyone is pounding the pavement and pushing our phlocking tickets.  We are hoping for a huge crowd at the phlocking but we need the help of our members to make that happen.  Remember, if  just 50 of our memebrs sell 10 tickets each, Island Fever will be a sell out event – now wouldn’t that be awesome!  Consider checking out a few tickets to sell to your friends, family, neighbors & co-workers.  Ask your employer to buy a few tickets on behalf of their business.

Our members are the greatest and we really appreciate everything you do to make the Isle of Iowa “own kind of paradise.”  We will be Knee Deep in phlocking fun in just 17 days!

P.S.   Don’t forget, membership dues are due by October 1st but why wait until October to renew?  Pay your membership dues at the meeting tonight & you will be entered into our special membership appreciation prize drawing at the October meeting!
