SUMMARY:Walk to End Alzheimer's
DESCRIPTION:Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's® is the world's largest fundraiser for Alzheimer's care, support and research. This inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease.\nWhile there is no fee to register for Walk, all participants are encouraged to raise critical funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support and advance research toward methods of prevention, treatment and, ultimately, a cure.\nHow to Participate in 3 Easy Steps:\n1. Register for your local Walk. Find a Walk near you and sign up as a Team Captain, team member or individual at alz.org/walk.\n2.Start fundraising and spread the word. We’ll provide tips and coaching every step of the way, including easy ways to raise funds online.\n3. Join us on Walk day. Come together for an inspiring community event that celebrates our commitment to ending the disease. \n \n\nWhy We Walk: Parrot Head or Parrothead is a commonly used nickname for fans of singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett. He is best known for his music, which often portrays an "island escapism" lifestyle. His musical hits include "Margaritaville", "Come Monday" and "Five O'Clock Somewhere."\nIn 1994, Jimmy's Buffett's father, James Delaney Buffett, Jr. was stricken with Alzheimer's disease and passed away at age 83 in May of 2003, several years after being diagnosed. It was then many clubs elected to do something as a tribute to Jimmy's father. Our PHiP chapters not only support Alzheimer's to honor Jimmy's father but because we're seeing this devastating plague insinuate itself into our own ranks.\nIn addition, we'd like to state PHiP Parrot Heads are unique. We take our fundraising responsibilities seriously, but at the same time we can add our own humor into the question Why We Walk as well as our own creativity into fundraising.\nWe invite everyone to join us as we Party With A Purpose for Alzheimer's by donating to a participating chapter today! You leave this world a little better with the eradication of Alzheimer's and having a blast while walking to end Alzheimer's.\n\n\n
