Jimmy Buffett 2013 Year in Review

In the year that Jimmy Buffett turned 67, he showed no signs of slowing down. Here’s a look back at 2013. What was your most memorable Buffett experience of the year?

January

  • Jimmy was referenced a couple times in an episode of the hit CBS sitcom “How I Met Your Mother”
  • A rumor dropped that a Margaritaville restaurant is coming to Syracuse. There’s been no additional rumors or info since

February

  • Jimmy warmed up for a February Florida tour swing with a show at the Bamboo Room in Lake Worth, FL
  • A Florida tour swing included shows in Sunrise, Pensacola, and Jacksonville
  • In early February, Jimmy announced his new album and tour name, Songs From St. Somewhere
  • At the Pensacola show, Jimmy played a special “Gulf Coast Set”
  • Buffett’s yacht, the Continental Drifter III, was listed as available for charter for only $65,000 per week (plus expenses)
  • The first spring tour date was announced on Feb. 11th, a stop at FC Dallas Stadium in Frisco, TX
  • Most of the spring and summer schedule was announced with tickets going on sale a few days later
  • Jimmy and his wife Jane attended the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in LA

March

  • Jimmy recorded a video congratulating the Zac Brown Band on their Grammy win:
  • Margaritaville Cincinnati opened March 4th
  • It was announced that the former Renaissance Grand Beach Resort on St. Thomas would be given new life as a Margaritaville Resort

  • Jimmy in St. Thomas unveiling plans for the first Margaritaville Vacation Club

  • Jimmy recorded another guest appearance on Hawaii Five-0
  • A Margaritaville casino resort addition was announced for the River Spirit Casino in Tulsa
  • Jimmy revealed that he is a co-producer of the Broadway musical Big Fish

April

May

  • The May 2nd show in Austin was postponed one day due to high winds and cold temperatures
  • Savannah Buffett interviewed her dad at the New Orleans Jazz Fest
  • A new Margaritaville opened in Atlantic City and a location in Destin, Florida was announced
  • Alabama Democrats tried to lure Jimmy’s sister Lucy (Lulu) into running for congress. She declined
  • Jimmy performed at a Boston Strong event to raise funds for Boston Marathon bombing victims

June

  • Jimmy joined Willie Nelson at his show in Montauk
  • A free concert on the Atlantic City beach drew more than 75,000
  • Buffett and Toby Keith headed to Nashville to film the music video for “Too Drunk to Karaoke”
  • A June tour swing took Jimmy through Boston, Philly, and Chicago

July

  • A Margaritaville Pigeon Forge location was announced on July 1st
  • Jimmy performed at the opening of his new Bossier City Margaritaville Casino
  • Jimmy performed at the Yacht Restoration School Gala
  • The music video for “Too Drunk to Karaoke” debuted on July 23rd

August

  • Jimmy performed on the Today Show to promote his new album
  • Songs From St. Somewhere, Jimmy’s first studio album in 5 years, was released on August 20th
  • A photo of Jimmy’s big catch off Nantucket made the media rounds
  • Jimmy’s new album debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200, selling 55,000 copies in its first week

September

  • Jimmy made a surprise visit to his Margaritaville Biloxi operation, arriving by seaplane

October

  • Jimmy appeared on the Ellen Degeneres show, playing “Something ‘Bout a Boat” and “Margaritaville”
  • Buffett played to just a few hundred at the Belly Up in San Diego
  • Comedian Bill Engval and his partner Emma Slater danced to “Cheeseburger in Paradise” on Dancing With The Stars
  • Jimmy performed in Denver, and played the song “A Mile High in Denver,” saying he was pretty sure it was the first time he’d ever played it live.

November

  • Coral Reefer Mac McAnally won CMA Musician of the Year for the sixth straight time

December

  • Jimmy played December shows in Louisville, St. Paul, Tulsa, and Hawaii
  • The December 6th show in Little Rock was canceled due to an ice storm
  • In an interview in Hawaii, Jimmy revealed that he’ll launch a Margaritaville internet TV channel
  • Jimmy wrapped the 2013 tour with a show in Honolulu
  • On Christmas Day, Jimmy celebrated his 67th birthday
